Harnessing the rhizosphere microbiome to benefit crops is still in development, despite extensive advances in horticulture tools. Plants selectively recruit beneficial microbes through root exudates, enhancing nutrition and stress resilience. Understanding the mechanisms behind these interactions can lead to technologies that increase crop yield. This review discusses current knowledge and advancements in manipulating rhizosphere microbiomes and root exudation.
