The resistance of the wheat microbial community to water stress is more influenced by plant compartment than reduced water availability

Drought manipulation in wheat fields revealed that bacterial community composition varies significantly between plant compartments, not due to precipitation. Osmotic stress-resistant microorganisms were less represented in the rhizosphere than in leaves. Actinobacteria were prevalent among 44 stress-resistant isolates, suggesting the leaf endosphere as a target for identifying drought-resistant bacteria.
