Soil degradation, especially in drylands, impairs soil hydrology and ecosystem services. This review discussed soil hydraulic properties, identified resilient microorganisms for soil restoration, and proposed future strategies for long-term land recovery, emphasizing the crucial role of soil microbes in enhancing moisture and physical soil features.
