In 2022, global CO2 emissions rose by 1.5% to 36.1 GtCO₂, consuming up to 36% of the remaining carbon budget for limiting warming to 1.5°C. Despite a 5.4% drop in 2020 due to the pandemic, emissions rebounded in 2021. Urgent tracking of emissions is essential to meet climate targets.
