Nitrous oxide (N2O), a potent greenhouse gas, has risen 25% since 1750. A comprehensive study using bottom-up and top-down approaches shows anthropogenic emissions, mainly from agriculture, increased by 40% from 1980 to 2020. Emerging economies like China have become top emitters, while Europe reduced its emissions by 31%. Recent N2O levels exceed projections, highlighting the need for global monitoring and reduction efforts. This study proposes to establish a global network to evaluate and mitigate N2O emissions.
