Global hotspots for soil conservation were identified through a field survey of 615 topsoil samples across continents. Biodiversity (archaea, bacteria, fungi, protists, invertebrates) and ecosystem functions (six services) varied regionally. Temperate regions had high species richness, while high-latitude areas excelled in ecosystem services. Many hotspots lack adequate protection. Prioritizing soil conservation requires addressing these multidimensional aspects.
