Environmental microbiome engineering offers a new strategy for climate change mitigation by optimizing microbial communities for carbon stabilization. This review covers the process of microbial sourcing, design, and delivery, and explores rhizobiome transplantation, noting its potential and challenges for large-scale agriculture.
