Root traits and soil fungal communities respond to drought in species-specific ways. A glasshouse experiment on 24 plant species found that drought-induced changes in fungal beta diversity, with saprotrophs increasing and mutualistic fungi decreasing for some species. Fungal response was linked to specific root traits, suggesting root adjustments modulate plant-fungus interactions under drought conditions.
