Climate change and cropland management compromise soil integrity and multifunctionality

Climate change and cropland management compromise soil integrity and multifunctionality

Climate change and intensified land use threaten soil functions across Europe. Using observational (456 samples) and experimental (80 samples) data, this study found that rising temperatures, dryness, and cropland management decrease soil multifunctionality. Experimental data confirmed these trends, highlighting the need to enhance soil multifunctionality in arable systems to maintain ecosystem services amid climate changes.
